Towncraft, no real focus in doc about early 90's Arkansas music scene

Towncraft (2007)

Despite an intriguing movie poster, this film will have a hard time finding an audience outside of people who had an affection for the late 80's and early 90's punk scene in Little Rock, Arkansas, which the documentary attempts to "hype". As far as I watched, there weren't any standout performances, and the editing was blocky. Really, the whole affair screams "amateurish", with repetitive interviews that seem to ask subjects the question, what was the Little Rock music scene to you? Not a lot of sharp anecdotes or any specific focus save for an artificial attempt to legitimize this town's young rockers in the wake of the much bigger underground scene that sprung up in Seattle around the same time. Sorry, but if the music were good enough, we wouldn't need our arms twisted to find credibility in these artists. I stopped watching midway through.

  1. Probably didn't help your appreciation that you watched "Hype" a little before this one or at least around the same time.
