Henry Poole, preachy like sunday morning

Henry Poole is Here (2008)
Jamal's Rating: 1 star
Netflix Average Rating: 3.1 stars

I stopped watching this movie about the scene when a grocery store cashier begins quoting Noam Chomsky. All the characters seem so interested in expounding philosophies pertaining to God and life, they don't seem to do any living themselves. It's annoying, and not a touch realistic. Also, their incessant nagging of the main character Luke Wilson, who has weeks to live and isolates himself in his house with the television set, is a bit hypocritical when the overall theme is: not everything in life needs an explanation. I may as well tell you the story involves a blotch on the side of Wilson's house that looks like Jesus Christ, a lot of nosy neighbors with good intentions, and a love interest. Also the acting is good, and the directing is fine. It's just not worth it, when most of the movie we feel we are being preached to. I'm happy so many Netflix users were inspired by this torpid drama, but give me Wilson's Bottle Rocket over this any day. Hell, give me Bongwater, that'll do. 1 star.
