I just love watching a movie and trying to predict what the main character will say next, and being happily wrong every time. Such is the case watching Jason Ritter, in a patient, tender performance trying to draw Marianna Palka (who also wrote and directs) out of her shell to get her to connect emotionally with him. He can be prodding at times, but it's always in a caring, good-humored sort of way. She is carrying some baggage, and holes herself away in her apartment watching porn movies. There isn't an indication why the two leads (will probably?) fall for each other, no Meet Cute; they simply both like porn, in a harmless way two people might both like Parcheesi. Their names are credited as "man" and "woman" but this isn't a pretentious art flick; it's a close, personal study of a complex and at times bewildering relationship. Martin Starr and some other guys play comic relief, but the funniest scenes are shared between the two leads.
